New age
I have always been apprehensive about the mysterious and somewhat troubling world of the blog. Could it bring the end of the literary world as we know it? Would teens spend their days in front of their computer monitors, listening to some techno rap fusion, reading the ranting blogs of their high school friends and posting their melodramatic "poetry" about how much their lives suck.. And believe it to be the work of literature... Never to delve into a book with the effort to consume what knowledge or wisdom was contained inside? Instead this child of the revolution would google chapter summaries or review spark notes, just so they could hold minimal discussion in front of their teacher and pass the quizzes without ever having read the actual text. Never to feel the work of Whitman or Hemingway or Kerouac. And maybe there would be no physical text. Maybe it will all be some web blog, or online post. The smell of the crisp and stale pages of a book stuffed into a shelf for an age would be replaced by eye soreness and that weird sticky glob on your keyboard that was left there because you had eaten some matter of stickiness a few months ago and you couldn't bring yourself to clean it off. Oh how Grimm this new age feels to me. I feel that once I post this blog that my world shall change forever. Every book that I have ever enjoyed or been enticed by will turn into an audio book or a blog. It's physical existence shall be lost forever into the cyber world of the Internet.. And I shall become a cyber sell out, only to share my scribblings with these children of the revolution as mass consumed cyber media... Well, enough with my apprehension. Nothing worth doing is free of risk. So I shall take my shaky hand and press that mouse button that will forever seal me fate.. This is the point of no return and this blog shall join the millions like it, lost and floating through cyber space amung the HTML code and the porm and penis enlargement advertisements. This is the new age.
